Charger types

AC and DC EV charger options explained

  • AC Type 2 (Mode 3) — 7.4kW single-phase — the standard choice for homes, offices and condominium car parks. Charges a typical EV overnight or in 4–8 hours depending on battery size. Requires a 32A dedicated circuit.
  • AC Type 2 — 22kW three-phase — for commercial and managed premises with three-phase supply available. Faster charge time; suitable for shared fleet or high-turnover bays.
  • DC fast charger — for public charging stations and commercial forecourts requiring rapid top-up. Requires significant power infrastructure and TNB supply upgrade planning.
  • Supply upgrade requirement — most residential and commercial EV charger installations require DB upgrade, new dedicated circuit, and sometimes a TNB supply capacity increase. NEXT IN™ manages this end-to-end as a TNB Approved contractor.

Quick reference
